We spoke to Joe Croxall, Senior Service Engineer within the Microscopy Business Unit Europe, about his responsibilities and expertise on Nikon’s range of Industrial Solutions products, including Nikon Wafer Loaders, Industrial Microscopes, Measuring Microscopes, Profile Projectors, and NEXIV video measurement systems.
  1. Could you please tell us about your responsibilities within Nikon Metrology?
I provide remote service support to resellers across Europe and other regions, while also delivering on-site assistance that includes the installation, maintenance, and repair of advanced metrology systems. In addition, I create, manage, and deliver service training programs for both internal teams and external resellers. My responsibilities include performing ISO17025 calibrations, ensuring full compliance with international standards, and managing calibration equipment to maintain the highest levels of accuracy. I also develop and maintain internal systems and processes to improve overall efficiency. Beyond calibration and maintenance, I handle the installation, calibration, servicing, and repair of Nikon equipment. My role further extends to job planning, which involves preparing quotes, scheduling service activities, and ensuring successful project delivery. I also participate in reseller meetings, offering technical insights and supporting strong, productive partnerships.

Collaboration is central to my work, and I value building strong relationships by working closely with others. 6. As a Nikon Metrology Senior Service Engineer, what is your favourite system feature of NEXIV and why?
I have a particular fondness for the NEXIV system, influenced by my background working with CMMs, and it stands out to me for several compelling reasons. Its reliability is exceptional, with repairs rarely required between annual service interventions. The calibration capabilities are equally impressive – error mapping ensures outstanding accuracy and consistently highprecision measurements. NEXIV systems are built for longevity, with many wellmaintained units remaining fully operational for decades. Their versatility is another major strength, offering a broad selection of models, sizes, and magnification options to suit a wide range of applications. The quality of the product speaks for itself; it is a system I am genuinely proud to support, and customers truly receive the value they invest in.
