Today we speak to Christian Kraft, Service Engineer for Germany, Austria and parts of Europe within the Microscopy Business Unit Europe, about his responsibilities and his wide expertise on Microscopy and Video Measuring products.
- Could you please tell us about your responsibilities within Nikon Metrology?
As a Regional Service Engineer, I am responsible for all Microscopy products within our business unit, including NEXIV Video Measuring Systems, measurement microscopes, profile projectors and industrial microscopes. These instruments require various tasks to be carried out such as annual maintenance, calibrations, installations and repairs. A significant part of my role involves providing direct customer support to assist our clients with any issues they may have regarding our products. Additionally, as a Regional Service Engineer, I am responsible for planning and organizing many upcoming jobs in cooperation with our service head office in the UK.

Being on the road means meeting different people every day. When leaving a customer, it is great to see how happy they are when problems have been solved, machines have been maintained and calibrated, and they are ready for use for another year. - Any anecdote that you would like to share with our readers?
To be honest, every day feels like an anecdote when you meet so many different people from different cities and countries, where some of them have even become friends. - You travel to many customer sites for service, maintenance and installations. What are the main benefits customers experience from using the NEXIV video measuring system?
One of my favorite products is our NEXIV system, which is a powerful video measurement system available in many different variations, regarding stage size, optics, accuracy and additional equipment, like touch probes. Taking all these possibilities into account, it is unlikely that there is anything that cannot be measured with this product.

NEXIV VMS-Z Series is available with three different models - What sectors and industries can benefit from using it?
The sectors are as diverse as the NEXIV configurations and the system itself. I see these machines being used in factories for cutting tools in the medical sector, as well as in cleanrooms for so many semiconductor applications. They ensure absolute accuracy down to sub-microns in all areas.
