What is the cost of quality? Discover how Nikon’s Laser Radar can help reduce costs and launch times in automotive production.

The coordinate measuring machine (CMM) has traditionally been the gold standard for acquiring and verifying measurement data from production line vehicles to ensure that all parameters are kept within tolerance. However, the problem has always been that CMMs are inherently slow and inflexible, so they are stuck in dedicated metrology rooms reducing sampling rates. For in-line measurement, the OEM must settle for relative sensors supported by these off-line CMM installations for correlation, compromising the overall effectiveness of the in-line metrology function.

All that is in the past with the APDIS Laser Radar from the Industrial Metrology Business Unit of the global Nikon Corporation. By using a long range, accurate infrared laser beam to directly measure surfaces and features, CMM-level quality data is acquired on the shop floor quickly, in absolute coordinates saving time and money in ramp up and production.

Join Nikon’s Paul Lightowler, APDIS Product Manager, to learn more about this paradigm shift in automotive metrology. In particular, you will be given examples on the cost and time savings that may be expected – and may be surprising – as well as an application study on real life launch improvements achieved with Nikon’s Laser Radar.
